We are not chosen to be like this. We are not willing to come to a country which speaks the language we don't know. We are not the people who want to be laughed at. We do not want to be what we are being now. But we learn the new language. We laugh too when they are laughing at us because of our accent. We hide this exinanition behind our appearance, so we are not showing saddness to those who wish to see us being. After all, we still do not want to be what we are being now. People laugh at others for two possible reasons: they are funny , the positive way; or they are antic, the negative way. Why there is such thing as tease, exist? Why are we receiving this negative laughing sound when we do not mean it? Why ain't we gaining any respect because we are complishing the same level of assignments as those who are born here and speak English as their first language? My first language is Madarin, but I am writing in English, now. Do I just accidently know how spell English words on the first day I landed in this totally foreign country? Do I have a huge curtain with "I cannot speak English" covering my face and being proud of it? I am learning this new language, because I have to use it in this new country. We, those who do not speak English until they are here, are trying to adapt this environment. We listen to their speaking, simulate their accent, speak their way, and we get repelled, for what? For not borning in this country? For not knowing their favourite stars? For not understanding their jokes? Or for speaking what we once believed was their way of speaking, which they changed it unpredictably? There is no clear reason. They just laugh at us the neagtive way. They do not accept us. They want to make friends who are born in their motherland. We concede. We are not making friends with them, but we have moral. We respect what they believed is serious. We take them seriously too. However, we do not talk during their hard work because we want to learn. Although we may not understand what they are saying completely, we remain calm. Although we sometimes disagree with them, we remain calm, because they think they are right. But it is just impossibly hard for them to remain silence till we finish what we believed is serious, because our accent is too funny that they have to make fun of it or they will suffer for the rest of their life. We are not the majority of the community, but we are not alone as well. There are, however, people that do understand our efforts for just trying to stand at the same level as people born here. They help us, we thank them. They know that we are not some kind of born idiot that we simply choose to not learn the language we need to surivive. They see us learning hard, and trying as much as we possibly could. I do not understand this. If these friends could understand us, why cannot the rest of them could at least hear about it. They laugh at us, for no logically reason. No matter how good we do, they do not accept it. They want to laugh madly because they are empty. They have nothing more than language to compare with us. And yet they do not understand one simple fact: this is our second language-we can live perfectly without knowing it. They cannot. So they laugh at us so that there is a chance we are going to give up, and be fallen. They are wrong. We will never give up! Laugh as much as you want, till you hurt your stomach, and feel even more unreasonably nervous. We will never give up, because we are not living in this new country without a goal. We are here to educate ourselves, so that we can have a chance to have better life. Laugh as much as you can, till you see your boss is one of us, and feel even more ashame so you bow down and pretend you never see the reality. We will never give up, because we understand we are much better than you. Oh, need an example, I can write this in Chinese too, can you? You may continue to laugh, as much as you could, till more of our friends leave you alone outside of the ark of morality. After their madly laugh, and enjoyable time, they pray to God to bless their life and to forgive their sins. We pray to God too, to bless ourselves, and them, hoping they are not hurting too much their stomach because of the laughing. If they do, that will be our sin! Are we felon? We should not come to this new country, join this "lovely" community, and learn what we have to! We should not get education in this country, because we cannot speak fluent English as they do! We are felon, ain't we? But we are not chosen to be like this. We want friendly enviornment. We want friendly laughing. We want friendly country. We want respect. We are not getting them. We are not chosen to be like this, but since we are, we will fight through, and become what we want to be |
